The month of March is rolling along in the Bluegrass state and apparently nothing garners attention like the rumors surrounding Billy Gillispie and the Kentucky Wildcats. The traffic visiting my blog has been record-setting the last couple of days and the early returns show that today will continue the trend.
There continue to be rumors circulating all around the state, and even beyond, about Billy Gillispie's future at Kentucky. For now, he is the head coach of the Wildcats and the team is preparing for the second round of the NIT on Monday night. Gillispie was at Rupp Arena yesterday for several games. He was reportedly watching Lexington Catholic point guard Vee Sanford. I also noticed him on the sidelines during the Elliott County/Anderson County game last night.
Speaking of the Sweet Sixteen, there was a first round attendance record set last night during the Elliott County game. The Lions have really captured the attention of many folks. They were in USA Today yesterday and on ESPN.com today and it seems that the talk around the state tournament always centers around the young men from Sandy Hook. I am certainly very excited about watching a game of good 'ole mountain basketball tonight when Elliott battles Shelby Valley.
It is great to see so many good teams in the elite eight at the Sweet Sixteen. Eastern, Holmes, Shelby Valley and Elliott County are all top 5 teams, in my opinion. All of those teams have over 30 wins and all have equal opportunities to cut the nets down tomorrow night. Not to discredit West Jessamine or Central, but I think that Eastern will probably have an easy route to the final game. Anything is possible in the bottom bracket and tonight is going to be a great night of high school basketball.
In other basketball action around the state, Cumberlands has advanced to the second round of the NAIA Division I Tournament. The Patriots will take on Westminster at 5:30 p.m. today. The Georgetown Tigers saw their season end in disappointment as they lost the Mid-South title game to Cumberlands and then were upset Wednesday in the first round of the national tournament. It was strange to see Georgetown lose so early. Lindsey Wilson's season also ended in the first round of the tournament as they lost last night to Texas Wesleyan.

Of course, the Morehead State Eagles will battle top-seeded Louisville tonight in the NCAA Tournament. The game is scheduled to tip-off around 7:10 or so.
Asbury College is currently participating in the NCCAA national tournament. The Eagles lost their first round game yesterday, but will be playing in a consolation-round game this afternoon. They will play Ecclesia (AR) College at 2:00 p.m. today.
All I know is that it is March Madness in Kentucky and that makes for a beautiful month of blogging.
