Cumberlands Wins NAIA Division I Tournament Game

NAIA Division I Tournament First Round

The Cumberlands Patriots raced out to a 39-25 halftime lead and never looked back in winning their first round NAIA Division I Tournament game. Cumberlands (27-6) was led by Josh Phillips with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Travis Harvey added 15 points and 8 rebounds. Bernard Cherry contributed a solid double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Roderick Braden paced Jarvis Christian (26-8) with 13 points and 5 assists.

The Patriots, seeded 11th in the tournament, advance to play 6-seed Westminster (29-4) today at 5:30 p.m.

Two other Kentucky teams, Georgetown and Lindsey Wilson, were eliminated from the tournament with first round losses. Georgetown, seeded 4th, was upset by Central Methodist on Wednesday. Unseeded Lindsey Wilson lost to Texas Wesleyan, the 10-seed, last night.
