KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Championship Preview: Central vs. Holmes

Game 15: Central (19-14) vs. Covington Holmes (35-2) 8:00 p.m.

The 92nd National City Boys’ Sweet Sixteen championship game will be played tonight in Rupp Arena. The game will feature powerhouse Holmes being challenged by Central. Holmes will be considered a heavy favorite heading into the game.

The Yellowjackets started the season 0-8 and finished the regular season at 12-13. After losing the district championship game, they managed to get hot and win the 6th Region. They did not stop there and now they find themselves in position to win a state championship. Central held on to defeat West Jessamine in today's first semifinal.

Holmes has a 35-2 record and that speaks for itself. The Bulldogs ousted fan-favorite Elliott County in their semifinal matchup earlier today. Holmes is a heavy favorite to cut the nets down tonight based on their size, athleticism and tough defense. Ricardo Johnson has been very impressive for the Bulldogs.

My Thoughts: Holmes has a more talented roster and will be a difficult matchup for Central. I expect outstanding defensive pressure from the Bulldogs. For Central, they will need to establish Wilson and Patterson early to stay with Holmes.

Prediction: I predict that Holmes will cruise to victory and cut down the nets tonight.
