There was a nice press release by Western Kentucky University today about the excellent play of former Hilltopper Courtney Lee. Here is the release:
Courtney Lee, who starred at WKU from 2005-08 and earned All-American honors as a senior, has helped the Orlando Magic to a 2-1 series lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. With two more wins over the Cavs, the Magic will then play the winner of the L.A. Lakers/Denver Nuggets series for the NBA title.
The Magic earlier defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 4-2 in the first round of the playoffs before knocking off defending NBA champion Boston 4-3 in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. The Magic last reached the NBA Finals in 1995, when they lost to the Houston Rockets.
Lee was the 22nd overall selection in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft. He has seen action in 13 playoff games, starting eight, and has averaged 28.5 minutes per game. While playing solid defense, Lee is also averaging 9.1 points per game, 1.8 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game. He has converted 17 of his 18 free throw attempts. Lee saw action in 77 regular season games during his rookie season, and averaged 8.4 points per game along with 2.3 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists per game.
Lee earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year honors in 2008 and led WKU to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title and a “Sweet 16” appearance in the NCAA Tournament. His 2,238 career points as a Hilltopper tied him with Jim McDaniels for WKU’s all-time lead.
