Is There Anything Better Then the UK Rumor Mill?

It has been a bizarre twenty-four hours in Big Blue Nation. There have been three fanatical rumors floating around the net involving three members of Kentucky's 2009 recruiting class. I am going to break-down each rumor and give me thoughts on each:

Rumor 1: Xavier Henry is dissatisfied with Kansas and is looking to transfer to another school

Xavier Henry's recruitment was already a circus and this rumor just adds to the show. I was led to this rumor by a Kentucky basketball blog, but the rumor apparently started via Twitter by a guy in Oklahoma. The rumor gathered steam and eventually made the usual rounds on the Internet.

There may be some validity to the rumors that Henry is not entirely happy with the way things have unfolded at Kansas. He did not enroll in summer school and there have been several whispers around the Jayhawk program that support this part of the rumor. On a rumor with this much smoke, there is usually at least a small spark of truth. The part of the rumor that suggests Henry will leave Kansas and transfer to another school is false, in my opinion. The suggestion that he will join the Kentucky recruiting class, while entertaining to think about, is insanely off-target.

There are reports tonight that Carl Henry, Xavier's father, is stating that both his sons will be attending Kansas. Even the person that started this rumor made these posts on Twitter:

"Right now look for xavier to suit up for the jayhawks unless u here different from me or somebody else."

"That's not true. The family gave self 12 days to work things out. To say xavier to uk is totally premature. Ill keep u updated."
"folks, some of u need to calm down! u r taking what i said and think xavier is headed to uk"

Rumor Status: FALSE with an *

Rumor 2: John Wall's academic status is questionable and he is looking for opportunities to play professionally in Greece

Today, we were hit with the rumor that John Wall, the top overall player in the 2009 recruiting class, will not qualify academically and is seeking a professional deal in Greece. I posted this on my site only because I feel that Kentucky fans should have the opportunity to check-out the various rumors that circulate during the off-season.

I have not discovered the origin of this rumor, but it quickly snow-balled and ended up all over the Internet. I did not create this rumor in any way, shape or form. I simply posted it for review and passed it along. The only portion of this rumor that even has a chance of being halfway accurate is the possibility that Wall's SAT score will not be adequate. While that is always a concern until it is official, I don't even know that there is reason to worry about that at this point.
This rumor is 100% false and worthy of nothing more than a good laugh.

Rumor Status: FALSE

Rumor 3: DeMarcus Cousins has not made the required SAT score and has been looking at professional opportunities in Germany

This rumor just went online tonight. I discovered it in the comments section of a well-known national blog. It was apparently started by a blog in Cousins' home-state of Alabama. I am not even going to waste any time on this one.

If you hear this rumor, it is false - end of story.

Rumor Status: LAUGHABLE

Final Thoughts:

It has been entertaining to see how fast these rumors spread, but my final thoughts are that they are nothing more than entertainment. John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins will be Kentucky Wildcats next season, providing they both qualify academically. Xavier Henry will be a Kansas Jayhawk next season. If he is unhappy now, Bill Self will resolve the situation and everything will return to normal.

kansasjayhawks357: How much more clearly can I say it than this:

"Xavier Henry will be a Kansas Jayhawk next season."

Apparently both Carl and Xavier have spoken with the area media and vehemently denied any validity to Dupre's rumor. I'm alternately amazed at the power of how far one lie goes on twitter and embarrassed that so much of Kentucky Nation ran with it.

The Wall to Greece rumor will be around until he passes his SAT and summer school classes. Not much we can do about that.

There are always going to be rumors. I passed them along for fun, but apparently it has caused a meltdown. I came up with this article to try to settle things back down.
