Vacation Log: Day 2

Today was a great day. We did some early-morning fishing that was not very successful. It is difficult for freshwater fishermen to figure out the changing tides, winds, depths and various species of the ocean. There is also a great deal of difference between fishing in a bay and fishing in the actual Gulf of Mexico. We are going to give it another go tomorrow morning.

After fishing, we spent the day at the beach under perfect conditions. The water was perfect, the temperature was hot but not humid and there was no sign of jellyfish or other pests. We visited the pool for the afternoon and then came home for a brief rest. I attempted to take an outdoor nap on the front porch swing with my 2-year old son, but we were awakened by a neighbor that decided to trim palm trees with a chain saw (see picture). For some reason, my son thought the man was a pirate, so he started saying, "Look daddy, pirate! Arhhhh!"

We ate at a little seafood joint called Elmo's tonight. If you visit Destin, you have to spend an evening at this place. The food was great and they offered an all-you-can eat deal on various types of shrimp, crayfish or crab legs. As a little bonus, there was also some family-oriented live entertainment that included the chicken dance, the hokie pokie, the electric slide and much more.

Tonight, we are soaking down a few beverages and relaxing while watching the NBA game.
