Former Kentucky Wildcat and Central City native Patrick Sparks has completed a successful 2008-09 season for Hoveria Ivano-Frankivsk in the Ukraine. Sparks is thousands of miles from home but he has found some similarities - the rims are still ten feet from the floor and he has not forgotten how to shoot the basketball.
Sparks scored 16.4 points per game for his team during the 40-game season that wrapped up in May. The former Kentucky sharpshooter blistered the nets for 41.3% shooting from beyond the 3-point line. He also averaged 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals during the season.
The Ukraine may offer different surroundings than his hometown of Central City, but some things never change.

This is great news -- I'm glad to see that Sparks is doing well. One note, though... The country is called "Ukraine," not "The Ukraine." It used to be part of the Soviet Union, which is the reason for the "the," but now it's its own country.
