Kentucky Basketball: Making National Headlines Again

The weekend victory over nationally-ranked North Carolina was somewhat of a coming out party for the Kentucky basketball program under the direction of new head coach John Calipari. The Wildcats, which dominated the national news for the majority of the summer, find themselves creating the most media buzz again as we enter the week.

Jay Bilas of ESPN.com says that Kentucky/North Carolina was the best basketball game of the weekend and Patrick Patterson was the best player:

Best Game: North Carolina at Kentucky may not have been perfectly played, but it was exciting and gave us plenty to ponder. Eye-opening talent combined with the inconsistency of youth made for a delicious treat to watch. The Wildcats will be great theater all season long. It will be fun to watch this group develop.

Best Player: Patrick Patterson, Kentucky. The Wildcats' incredible talent was on display in Lexington, but without the experienced play of Patterson, UK would not have been able to hold on for a great win. Patterson was a man out there and has really improved his overall game. Nobody was better this weekend. The freshmen are getting the headlines, but Patterson was and is outstanding.

Wildcats head coach John Calipari has said that the freshman phenom is further along at this point than either Rose or Evans were - in this game it was clear to see why.
