Calipari and Wildcats Visit Kentucky Children's Hospital

John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats' basketball team recently visited the Kentucky Children's Hospital and brought holiday cheer to everyone.

Article by Mark D. Birdwhistell of UK HealthCare (visit for many other pictures):

On Tuesday December 22, UK Coach Calipari and his team visited the Kentucky Children's Hospital to share holiday wishes with the patients, families and staff. The tradition of the UK Basketball team visiting the Children's Hospital goes back a number of years. The timing of this year's visit was especially memorable because the night before, this basketball team made history. The win against Drexel, was the 2000th win for our program. With this win,UK became the first college basketball program to reach this accomplishment.

I was amazed at the interaction between Coach Cal and the patients and their families. The dedicated staff at the Kentucky Children's Hospital were especially excited to have their pictures taken with Coach Cal and the team. Many of them had the front page of Lexington Herald Leader available for the team to autograph.

Over the past year, we have had the opportunity to get to know Coach Cal from the stands and from the media. After having the opportunity to meet Coach Cal and seeing how gracious he was with the patients and their families, I now have additional admiration for him. His charisma and compassion were inspiring to say the least!

I am excited to be able to share some of the photographs of Coach Cal, the team and our staff. These pictures do not portray Coach Cal's interaction with the patients and families, which due to confidentiality reasons I can not publish. Just take my word for it, it was priceless!
