The Pikeville College Bears, who are off to a tremendous 8-1 start, have been rewarded for their excellent early-season play with the #9 spot in this week's NAIA DI basketball poll.
"This is a great honor for the hard work that has been put in during the last three years, as well as this year," head coach Kelly Wells stated about the new ranking.
Moving forward, Wells explained, "We are proud of where we're at, but this will only add motivation to out team for the rest of the season."
He admitted that reaching a higher level of play has taken more than just the team and coaching staff.
"It is really a credit to the hard work from everyone in our program, the school and the community of Pikeville."
The Bears are joined in the top 25 this week by #11 University of the Cumberlands and #19 Georgetown College. Campbellsville University and St. Catharine College each received votes in the new poll.
