Breaking: NCAA "Looking Into" Eric Bledsoe's Eligibility

Pete Thamel and Thayer Evans of the New York Times are reporting tonight that the NCAA is investigating the college eligibility of former Kentucky guard Eric Bledsoe.

According to the article, sources told the Times:

- Bledsoe’s high school coach paid for at least three months of his family’s rent,

- There was an uncharacteristic jump in Bledsoe’s GPA

- Another college coach reported that Bledsoe’s high school coach asked for a specific amount of money in exchange for the point guard signing at the school.

Here is an excerpt of the article:

The dramatic changes in Bledsoe’s academic and athletic prospects have attracted the attention of the N.C.A.A., which has sent investigators to at least three places in Alabama to ask about him. The N.C.A.A. does not talk about its investigations so the scope of this one is not known.

But Bledsoe’s academic makeover and extra benefits he apparently received could be another blow to John Calipari, the celebrated coach at Kentucky who previously led teams at Massachusetts and Memphis that had their records and Final Four appearances expunged after rules violations were found under his watch.

Interviews with those connected with Bledsoe’s life in Birmingham revealed potential violations.

Complete Article

Obviously, these are serious allegations against Eric Bledsoe and his former high school coach but it is important to note that these are allegations only.

I am sure that there will be a national meltdown of anti-Kentucky and anti-John Calipari critics, but Kentucky fans need to read the article and take it for what it's worth.

UPDATE: Matt May of The Cat's Pause just posted on Twitter:

@TCPMAY: A source at UK says the school has not received any letter of inquiry from NCAA & had no knowledge of investigation into Bledsoe

It will blow over. Nothing to panic about. Just the usual Anti-UK/Calipari stuff. Haha you Memphis and Louisville fans are clowns. haha

just like it blew over when he was at Memphis, right?

Pretty much the same situation, except sub in Bledsoe for Rose, and SAT changes to GPA changes.

BUT WAIT!!!

Bledsoe also had 3 months of rent paid for.

Sounds a little like the Reggie Bush/USC case.

Hmm...me thinks NCAA sanctions are coming...

haha....Keep "thinking" but in the end, you will be terribly disappointed that nothing came out of this.

We'll see.

I love UK's fans being all cocky even when the NCAA is breathing down their neck.

Must be Calipari's influence because the whole world knows that when Gillispie was the coach, y'all were like a sack of potatoes.

ConfifentCat, the mnute Bledsoe's parents accepted money to pay their rent from the coach, Blesdoe lost his amateur status.
He wouldn't be eligible to play NCAA basketball.
Good luck using that "NCAA Clearinghouse cleared him to play" defense.
Now your coach will be the first to vacate 70 plus wins, two final fours, and a elite eight.
I am not gloaing on this mind you.
I have warned you all from the beginning that this is the kind of stuff that comes from Calipari being your coach.
He knows everything his kids do at every minute of the day He has total control.
Expect to see him issue a "I didn't know about it" response if he DOES open up about it....because poor Cal never knows nothin'. We Memphis fans knew him for nine years. Forgive us if we think we know him better than you.

Funny how his mother got so sick all of a sudden. She may be legitimately ill for all I know. What I do know (from experience) is that this is giving him time to negotiate another job.
And right now, the iron is hot for him to go pro.

gloating even...darn chicklet keys on a netbook computer

"When Gillispie was the coach, yall were like a sack of potatoes"
How good is Memphis without John Calipari? I know....NIT caliber. Get used to it.

UK can be the first team to 2000 wins... TWICE!! That's an accomplishment!

Memphis has the talent to go back to the NCAA Elite 8 next season.
We don't have a NCAA cloud over us now Genius.
You do. (Plus we have a much better bench coach now than you)
And soon.....say buh-bye as Knight & Jones transfer to other schools....along with the rest of the class.

Glenn Condrey said...

forgot to mention...UNC will now be the all time winningest program, after the NCAA forces you to vacate all wins in which Bledsoe participated.
Had they known about this athe beginning of the season, you could have suspended him for 10 games.
Because you didn't....you will prolly have to vacate 35 wins....and drop down to #2 in the all time wins market.
Tsk tsk

Nothing is going to be vacated clown. It sounds like I hit a nerve talking about how Memphis is nothing without Calipari. UK on the other hand, will always be something. And do you know what, IF Pastner turns out to be a good coach, UK will take him from Memphis as well. haha Have a nice Memorial Day troll.

All you arrogant, no class, no integrity UK fans just face the music. All of you knew it was going to happen. Cheaters never win!

this is nothing like the bush/usc case. because he was excepting money while at USC. bledsoe is accused of accepting money while in high school not under the umbrella of coach cal. i know it can result in similar consequences but seems to be a fairly substantial difference.

Anonymous said...

LMAO at the poster who said UK will take Pastner and that Memphis is nothing without Cal.

Memphis had Final Fours before Cal, and will have them after.

Let's not forget that MEMPHIS beat Calipari for recruits this past year. Or that MEMPHIS had the number one recruiting class before Cal worked his usual scumbuggery into the top spot.

Memphis was a good program before Cal, and will be after Cal.

Ha. Haha. Hahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

*laughing* My stomach hurts! Stop It! Memphis has a good program. hahahaha

This is all big LIES, Coach Cal please do not let this get on your last nerve!!. People quick being haters. Leave UK a lone.

Glenn Condrey said...

You can't hire Pastner.
See UK has NO MORALS at all.
Josh Pastner does.
He'd be gone after one day of working for you
