DeMarcus Cousins Fined by Kings; Reason for Concern?

Former Kentucky big man DeMarcus Cousins has been fined by the Sacramento Kings for clashes with the coaching staff.

ESPN.com reports that Cousins has had more than one incident, which "has created a level of tension" that is not needed by the young Sacramento team.

Here is an excerpt:

One source close to the situation told ESPN.com that Cousins was fined recently for clashing with members of Westphal's staff. I've also been advised that it's not one-and-done as far as such clashes go, which has created a level of tension that -- anticipated or not -- obviously isn't what the Kings need when they're already operating at such an experience deficit on top of their serious defensive frailties.

Kings' head coach Paul Westphal would not confirm or deny anything but said he loves having Cousins on his team and there will be growing pains along the way:

"First off, I don't confirm or deny anything that happens behind closed doors. And every team always has behind-closed-doors issues that are inevitable parts of basketball," Westphal said. "All I can say is generalities: we're thrilled that we were able to pick DeMarcus, we love having him on the team, I'm excited about his present and even more excited about his future.

"As with any player, there are going to be some days that are better than others as they learn what the league is all about. Anything that has happened as far as anybody trying to make more out of it than that is really not fair, I don't think.

"I love that we have DeMarcus, and we're going to have some growing pains along the way. That's pretty much what I would have to say about that."

hmm...emotional basketball player who wants to win gets fined for clashing with coaches...frustration? perhaps...but i remember when Larry Bird just about ripped Dr. J's head off when he was a rookie and the press called him "hard-nosed" and "a lunch-pail warrior"...(????)...my guess is that is a wide range of things going on here...Bird was never fined by the Celtics, but my guess is he may have taken out his frustrations once or twice on his coaching staff...now...not comparing Boogie with Bird quite yet...but it is humorous how a slanted view the press has when dealing with similar "wanting to win at all-costs" attitudes but from different "cultural" backgrounds...if DeMarcus wasn't emotional would the national press view him as lazy???...it's a no-win situation...growing pains...he will develop
