Rick Pitino to Florida Gulf Coast University?

EagleNews.org, the Florida Gulf Coast University student newspaper, writes this morning that Louisville head coach Rick Pitino is interested in leaving the Cardinals to coach FGCU.

Or course, they are completely and hilariously incorrect, but it's still a little funny to think that Pitino would give up a great job at U of L to head to South.

One has to assume that the actual person who is interested in the job is Rick's son, Richard Pitino. The younger Pitino is currently an assistant at the University of Florida.

Another name who has shown interest in the job is former University of Kentucky star Kyle Macy.

Here is a comical excerpt from the article:

The list includes Pitino, former NBA coach Eric Musselman, former NBA standouts and Division I coaches Kyle Macy and Jan van Breda Kolff, and former Iowa and Butler coach Todd Lickliter.

Kavanagh expressed mutual interest in Lickliter, who led Butler to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament twice. Macy, color commentator for University of Kentucky telecasts and former Morehead State head coach, spent seven years in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers.

Before that, Macy was a All-American member of Kentucky's 1978 NCAA championship squad.

Pitino, who is currently coaching Louisville, didn't personally express interest in the position.

Instead, the endorsement came from Dan Gavitt, associate commissioner for men's basketball of the Big East conference, to Kavanagh.
