Aaron Harrison Sr. Says Report is False

Aaron Harrison Sr. says an earlier report from Adam Zagoria is completely false.

Zagoria cited an unnamed source as saying that Harrison Sr. and his twin sons, Andrew and Aaron, are at odds over which college they will attend.

Here is an excerpt:

There’s no truth to a report stating that Aaron Harrison Sr. and his prized twin sons, Aaron and Andrew Harrison, are at odds over whether the two will sign with Maryland or Kentucky, he told InsideMDSports.com.

Aaron Harrison Sr. (back right): “Aaron and Andrew haven’t made a decision, and I want whatever they want for themselves ... Whatever they want is what I want."

The report, which appeared Saturday on a New York-based recruiting and basketball website and cited an unnamed source, stated that the brothers want to commit to Kentucky but have not done so because he wants them at Maryland.

“That’s just [the reporter of the story] doing his thing. I'd talked to him one time a few months ago and he re-worded what I said and took it all out of context in his article, so I don’t talk to him anymore. Maybe that's why he had to write something. He makes up things and runs with them for attention,” Harrison said.

Source Says Harrison Family Split Between UK, Maryland

Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com has spoken to a source who says the Harrison family is split on where 2013 stars Andrew and Aaron Harrison will attend college.

The source says Andrew and Aaron want to go to Kentucky while their father wants them at Maryland.

Here is an excerpt:

“The boys want to go to Kentucky, the dad wants them to go to Maryland,” the source said. “The dad’s from there. He and [Maryland coach] Mark Turgeon have known each other a long time since Mark’s days at Texas A&M. But the boys want to go to Kentucky.”

The source added: “I think the boys will win out. If they can be first, if nobody will commit to Kentucky first, I think the boys will go to Kentucky. The dad favors his hometown.”

The twins are due to announce for either Kentucky or Maryland Oct. 29. SMU remains an extreme longshot.

Thumbs Up for Lane Goodwin

I shared the touching story of young Lane Goodwin with my U10 soccer team this morning before our game.

Lane, you are an inspiration to all and you are in our thoughts and prayers. Here is a thumbs up from the Boyle County U10 Cheetahs:

Here's a little about Lane's story from Wave3.com:

"Praying for a miracle. That's what we're praying for," said Lane's mother Angie.

Several prayers were said and songs sung as Lane was briefly brought out on the front porch to see first hand the support of his community.

"We're blessed he's still here cause we didn't think we'd be here today," Angie told 14 News.
Lane was first diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in March of 2010. Since then, he's relapsed twice and just this week, he and his family were told the cancer had spread to his brain.

"They were 10 minutes away from putting him in a medical induced coma because the seizures wouldn't stop and they just stopped and now here we are," his mother told us. "He's getting up out of bed. He's walking."

Friday morning, Lane had what his mother describes as a rocky morning, but she says he was upbeat and talking with friends later in the day. Then, he began having seizures again, forcing him back inside as the prayers outside continued.

"He doesn't want to fight with chemo and stuff anymore, and there's no point at this point. He just wants to enjoy the time. He said, 'I'm ready.'"

The Trail Blazers also signed Adam Morrison and Dallas Lauderdale today.

Tyler Roberson Set to Cut Final List to Five

Tyler Roberson, a 6-foot-8 small forward at Roselle Catholic (NJ), is close to cutting his final list to five schools.

Roberson recently picked up an offer from John Calipari and Kentucky and says the Wildcats may earn an official visit, which suggests that UK will make his final five.

Currently, Roberson is considering 10 schools: Syracuse, Seton Hall, SMU, South Carolina, Alabama, Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, Villanova and Rutgers.

Roberson ranks No. 29 overall on the Rivals.com list for 2013.

Here is more from CBSSports.com:

Although he is not saying which five schools will make the list, there are certainly some tea leaves from which to gather hints.

Roberson has three official visits set up at this point: SMU on Sept. 27, Syracuse on Oct. 5 and Kansas on Oct. 12. It doesn't look like he plans to cancel those trips either.

"They're most likely going to be in my top-five," Roberson said.

One school that entered the fray recently was Kentucky, which had made Roberson's list of 10 but had never extended a scholarship offer. That offer came earlier this week, when coach John Calipari went to see him at Roselle Catholic (N.J.).

"It was nice," Roberson said. "They were always a top program in the country, so it was exciting."

He also went on to say the Wildcats could get an official visit.

Mother Claims Gillispie Verbally Abused Her Young Son

A mother claims that former Texas Tech head coach Billy Gillispie verbally abused her teenage son during a summer basketball camp.

Here is more from SI.com:

The woman wrote that other coaches at the camp told her son that Gillispie "likes to pick someone and try to `break them' for some reason," and that the young man "wasn't doing anything wrong," according to a letter to Texas Tech's chancellor obtained through an open records request.

Gillispie resigned from Texas Tech on Thursday, citing health concerns after he was hospitalized twice in the past month. The 52-year-old Gillispie stepped down amid allegations he mistreated players on his team.

The mother's name is redacted in the Aug. 20 letter to university chancellor Kent Hance. No written reply was made but Hance called the Texas Tech alum, who is a teacher, to discuss the matter, officials said.

On the camp's first day in late June the woman's son, now a high school senior, overthrew a pass to another camper.

"It happens," the mother wrote in her letter. "That's the only thing he thought brought on the barrage of insults spurted from the mouth of your coach Gillispie. This was the first of many such verbal attacks."

Here is more from Pal-Item.com:

John Calipari, head coach of the national championship Kentucky Wildcats last spring, was in Richmond Thursday to speak at the annual Smart Futures dinner for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County. He was invited by former Earlham College coach and close friend Del Harris, who emceed the event.

Back to the question, probably asked of Calipari dozens of times since the ’Cats defeated Kansas in New Orleans.

A quiet, relaxed smile.

“Life is the same. It hasn’t changed. Just keep marching forward and prepare another team,’’ he mused.

“I’m not one to look in the rear-view mirror. Last year is over. That trophy is in the case. Now, how do we make this team the best team it can be. All we’re trying to do is make sure we’re bringing in kids that understand that this (Kentucky) isn’t the easiest place to play basketball,” he said.

“I tell them that they will have to play at a high level, train at a high level, play with other guys who can play, and you must share and do it together.”
