Kobe Bryant Takes Cheap Shots at Jodie Meeks

NBA star Kobe Bryant didn't hesitate to destroy former teammates and take cheap shots at current teammate Jodie Meeks on Thursday.
Bryant said he's been murdering Meeks in practice.
Here is an excerpt:
That also means Bryant won't hold back on former and current teammates. As Bryant sat out of Wednesday's game because of a strained right shoulder, Lakers Coach Mike Brown penciled in Jodie Meeks as his backup and suggested he has the edge over Devin Ebanks at that spot. Bryant wouldn't buy that premise for a simple reason.

"That's not fair," Bryant said. "Jodie has to guard me every damn day in practice. He isn't looking too good."

So have you hurt Meeks' case?

"That's not fair," Bryant said. "They have to balance that out. I've been murdering him."

So what are you doing on him?

"I'm kicking his [expletive]" Bryant said with a laugh. He then turned to a quiet Darius Johnson-Odom, who sat a few locker stalls away from Bryant. "Have I not been?" Bryant pressed. "Have I not been?" Johnson-Odom laughed, but didn't say a word.

Is Meeks at least making shots?

"Not when I'm guarding him," Bryant said, laughing.

Report: 2013 Star James Young to Kentucky

The Detroit News is reporting that 2013 star James Young will commit to the Kentucky Wildcats.

Young's official announcement will come tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Here is an excerpt of the report:

Rochester senior guard/forward James Young, ranked No. 5 in ESPN's top 100, is expected to make his commitment to a university Thursday and sources say Young will choose Kentucky over Michigan State.

Evan Daniels spoke to the CN2 earlier today. He also predicts Kentucky:

Terrence Jones Goes Off in NBA Preseason Debut

Former Kentucky star Terrence Jones wasted no time showing his versatile game in his NBA preseason debut.

Jones came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points in the Rockets 107-105 win over Oklahoma City. The rookie also pulled down 6 rebounds and beat the third quarter buzzer with a long three-pointer.

Patrick Patterson started and finished with 10 points and 3 boards for Houston.

DeAndre Liggins had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals for the Thunder. Daniel Orton was listed on the roster but did not play.

James Young All But a Lock for Kentucky?

It is sounding as if James Young committing to Kentucky is all but a lock at this point.

Everyone I have asked says Young will choose the Wildcats.

Evan Daniels says only one school is still involved with Young:

EvanDanielsFOX James Young to announce tomorrow. Presser won't be suspenseful. Only one school still involved ...

In other words, Kentucky will likely have three of the top 10 players in the class of 2013 wrapped up by the end of the day tomorrow.

Daniels later answered a question on Twitter:

EvanDanielsFOX Zero suspense in this deal. RT @ZachPeddicord in your opinion is Kentucky as big of a favorite as it seems [for James Young]?

Complete Release Discusses 2012-13 NBA Rookies writers Paul Forrester, Lee Jenkins, Chris Mannix and Ian Thomsen recently broke down the NBA rookie class for 2012-13.

Forrester and Thomsen think Anthony Davis will win NBA Rookie of the Year but Mannix and Jenkins disagree.

Here is an excerpt:

Lee Jenkins: Fiction. It's much harder for big men to assert themselves early than guards. Davis is with a young team, in a brutal conference, and he spent only one year in college. I'll go with Portland point guard Damian Lillard because he is older, he'll have the ball in his hands and he's the rare rookie with a lot of experience running the pick-and-roll. The Blazers will bounce back this season and Lillard stands to receive much of the credit.

Paul Forrester: Fact. But the voting might be closer than expected. Davis should make an immediate impact on the Hornets' defense and record. But the Rookie of the Year award often is swayed by stats, and while Davis could be a better offensive presence than many predict as a rookie, players such as Golden State's Harrison Barnes and Cleveland's Dion Waiters will have more of a green light to score. And 20 points stand out a lot more in a game than 12 rebounds, three blocks and 10 points. Still, if a healthy Eric Gordon can help Davis engineer a 15-game or so improvement for the Hornets, that will be hard to ignore.

Jenkins also thinks Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will be the rookie who struggles the most this season:

Jenkins: Kidd-Gilchrist, because the Bobcats still lack any offensive punch, and he won't be able to provide it. He is going to be a standout defensive player, and a valuable complementary part, but he isn't the kind of transformative scorer who can single-handedly turn an also-ran into a competitor. Kidd-Gilchrist lost two games in college. He will get a ton of experience with failure this season.

All four writers think Davis will ultimately be the best player from the 2012 NBA Draft.

Canaan, Kentucky Freshmen Named to All-American Teams

Murray State star Isaiah Canaan has been named All-America First Team by

Kentucky's Nerlens Noel is on the Second Team.

Noel and UK teammate Alex Poythress are on the All-Freshman First Team, while Archie Goodwin is on the Second Team.

CBSSports All-America First Team:

F - Shabazz Muhammad, 6-6, 225, Fr., UCLA
F - Doug McDermott, 6-8, 225, Jr., Creighton
C - Cody Zeller, 7-0, 240, Soph., Indiana
G - Isaiah Canaan, 6-1, 195, Sr., Murray State He may not be a true point guard, but he's a shot-maker and also averaged nearly four assists per game for the Racers -- who were the last unbeaten team in the country last year. Canaan shoots the ball extremely well, but he does more than just score.
G - Phil Pressey,5-11, 175, Jr., Missouri

Second Team:

F - Mike Moser, 6-8, 210, Jr., UNLV
F - Tony Mitchell, 6-8, 235, Soph., North Texas
C - Nerlens Noel, 6-10, 228, Fr., Kentucky It'll be all about the flattop this season in Lexington instead of the Unibrow. Noel isn't quite Anthony Davis, but as far as shot-blocking is concerned, he's not far off -- if at all. Noel may not be as polished on the offensive end as Davis, but he could be on par with AD as far as a defensive presence in concerned.
G - Trey Burke, 6-0, 190, Soph., Michigan
G - Jamaal Franklin,6-5, 195, Jr., San Diego State

All-Freshman First Team

F - Shabazz Muhammad, 6-6, 225, UCLA
F - Alex Poythress, 6-7, 239, F, Kentucky Poythress is among the reasons Kentucky probably won't miss all those early entries to last June's NBA Draft. He's one of three Wildcats who could earn First Team All-American honors.
C - Nerlens Noel, 6-10, 228, Kentucky Noel's recruitment has kept NCAA investigators busy but it remains unclear if any eligibility issues will keep him off the court. At this point, the assumption is that he'll play. When he does he'll block shots like Anthony Davis.
