Morehead State has released its men's basketball schedule for the 2013-14 season.

Here is a release from MSU:

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State has finalized its 2013-14 men's basketball schedule. The 31-game slate features 10 dates against postseason teams from a year ago, including Pac-12 Conference member UCLA and Southeastern Conference opponent Tennessee.

Game times will be announced via MSUEagles.com in the near future.

"We're excited about the upcoming season," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "Our schedule is filled with quality opponents, but our team will get better by playing high-level competition. Our young men will be tested early and often, but I know they're looking forward to the challenge."

Morehead State will play 14 regular-season games at Johnson Arena, including non-conference match-ups against Conference USA opponent Marshall (Nov. 17), Horizon League member Wright State (Dec. 2) and Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green (Dec. 15).

"Winning games on your home floor is extremely important," Woods said. "We had a really good atmosphere at Johnson Arena several times last year, but I would love for our fans to take that to the next level in 2013-14. Our players really get energized when the house is packed."

The Eagles have four non-conference tilts versus 2013 postseason squads -- UCLA (Nov. 22), Wright State, Conference USA foe Southern Mississippi (Dec. 4) and Tennessee (Dec. 23).

Terrence Jones Apologizes, Deletes Post, Maintains Innocence

Former Kentucky star Terrence Jones seemed to issue an apology on his Facebook page in response to allegations that he "stomped" on a homeless man in Portland:

I am extremely sorry and embarrassed for my actions. Sorry to all my family, friends, fans and everyone else who I’ve hurt. I am taking steps to become a better person and a better role model.

That post has since been removed and the Jones' camp says the Facebook page was hacked.

Scott Anderson of NationofBlue.com spoke to a source close to Jones who said the account was hacked and maintained Jones' innocence in the matter:

The above facebook post has been deleted. I have been told by a source that the facebook page was hacked and was not posted by Terrence Jones.

Terrence Jones is standing by his not guilty plea and his lawyer has stated that the alleged incident has been misconstrued.

Coaches Burning Up the Phones for Newly Available Quentin Snider

Quentin Snider's dad told Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal that college coaches have been burning up the phones since word got out that his son had opened his recruitment back up.

Snider's first offer came from Richard Pitino at Minnesota and he has since picked up new offers from Illinois and UCLA as well has calls and texts "from about 25-30 schools."

Here is an excerpt:

“We put the phones on silent and everybody went to sleep,” Quentin Snider’s dad, Scott, said. “We woke up, and we had texts and calls this morning. It’s been pretty much nonstop. … I thought we’d get a few calls. I didn’t realize it was going to happen this fast.”

As of about 8 p.m. Thursday, Scott Snider still had about 10 voice mail messages to listen to, but he said he and his son had received more than 60 combined calls and texts from about 25-30 schools, including five — Minnesota, West Virginia, Connecticut, Marquette and Illinois — that made immediate scholarship offers.

“It’s been kind of a whirlwind,” Scott Snider said.

The first offer, from Minnesota, came from a longtime acquaintance — new Gophers coach Richard Pitino, the son of U of L coach Rick Pitino and a former Cardinals assistant who helped recruit Snider as an underclassman.

Lawyer: Terrence Jones "Tripped Over" and "Nudged" a Homeless Man

The lawyer representing Houston Rockets forward Terrence Jones said Thursday that Jones may have tripped over a sleeping homeless man, encouraged him to "Wake up!," and nudged him, but did not stomp on him has reported by police.

Here is more from OregonLive.com:

According to Jones' lawyer Kevin O'Connell, the homeless man was sleeping in a doorway next to the bureau's Old Town precinct and his body "partly extended onto the sidewalk.''

Portland police put out a release saying the homeless man, 46-year-old Daniel John Kellerher, suffered a minor injury and did not require immediate medical attention.

According to Jones' lawyer, the police did not determine whether or not the homeless man needed medical attention and he received none.

"Terrence Jones is a gentleman with not a mean bone in his body,'' O'Connell wrote in a statement released Thursday.

NCAA Changes Guidelines for Men's Basketball Tournament

The NCAA has made some minor changes to the format of its men's basketball tournament (aka March Madness).

The new rules will dictate when two teams from the same conferences will be able to potentially meet in the NCAA Tournament.

Here is a rundown via NCAA press release:

INDIANAPOLIS — The Division I Men’s Basketball Committee has altered the guidelines for placing teams in the bracket of the men’s basketball tournament. The change is based on feedback from NCAA schools, conferences and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), along with a desire to protect the integrity of the overall seed list.

One of the changes addresses how soon teams from the same conference can play each other in the tournament, which will be based on the frequency with which they met during the regular season and postseason conference tournament.

This means that teams from the same conference that played only once during the season can now face each other as early as the third round of the championship. Subsequently, teams from the same league that met twice during the year will not potentially play each other until the regional semifinals. Also, teams from the same league that played each other three times during the course of the season cannot play until the regional championship game.

The previous guidelines did not allow more than two teams from a league to be in the same region unless nine or more teams were selected from one conference. This has only occurred twice in the history of the championship (Big East with 11 teams in 2011 and nine in 2012). Under the new principles, each of the top four teams selected from a conference will be placed in separate regions, only if they are seeded on the first four lines. This replaces the principle that separated the top three teams from a league regardless of the teams’ placement within the bracket.

“It is important we avoid the top teams from leagues receiving multiple bids to the tournament from playing one another when they are seeded in the first quadrant,” said Ron Wellman, chair of the Division I Men’s Basketball Committee and director of athletics at Wake Forest. “But after those first four lines are seeded, we want to remain as true to the seed lines as possible. Too often we have had to move teams up and down a line because we have been limited by our principles on teams from the same league. These changes will give us permissions we have not had previously.”

Keatts, Antigua Two of College Basketball's Most Feared Assistants on the Recruiting Trail

Jeff Goodman and the folks at ESPN.com surveyed more than 200 college coaches and got their thoughts on who the most feared assistant coaches are on the recruiting trail.

Louisville's Kevin Keatts came in third on the list and Kentucky's Orlando Antigua was fifth.

Here are the top 10:

1. Kurtis Townsend, Kansas Jayhawks
2. Mike Hopkins, Syracuse Orange

3. Kevin Keatts, Louisville Cardinals
It hasn’t taken the former Hargrave Military Academy prep school coach long to make his mark in the college ranks. He had a fairly brief stint as an assistant at Marshall, but he’s already pulled Montrezl Harrell, Luke Hancock (transfer from George Mason), Chris Jones, Terry Rozier and Anton Gill in his three seasons under Rick Pitino. He also helped the Cards land a pledge from highly ranked guard Jaquan Lyle. Without Keatts getting Hancock and Harrell, Louisville doesn’t cut down the nets last season.

4. Butch Pierre, Oklahoma State Cowboys

5. Orlando Antigua, Kentucky Wildcats
John Calipari has no peer when it comes to recruiting -- and the combo of Cal and Kentucky is nearly unbeatable. That’s part of what makes Antigua feared, but he’s also done more than his part to make certain UK continues to get elite players season after season.

6. Robert Kirby, Memphis Tigers
7. Jeff Capel, Duke Blue Devils
8. Justin Hutson, San Diego State Aztecs
9. Jerome Tang, Baylor Bears
10. Jeff Boals, Ohio State Buckeyes

Ballard Point Guard Quentin Snider Opens Recruitment Back Up

Ballard High School star Quentin Snider is breaking off his commitment to Louisville and has decided to open his recruitment back up.

Evan Daniels broke the news on Twitter:

Pistons Trade Brandon Knight, Expected to Sign Peyton Siva

The Detroit Pistons are planning to trade former Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight to the Milwaukee Bucks for Brandon Jennings.

The Pistons will send Knight, Kris Middleton and Slava Kravtsov to the Bucks in exchange for Jennings in a sign-and-trade agreement.

According to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, the Pistons are now expected to sign former Louisville point guard Peyton Siva. Siva was drafted by Detroit in the second round of this summer's NBA Draft.

Here is an excerpt from Freep.com:

The Pistons move on from Knight, their 2011 first-round pick. He struggled at the point and, with owner Tom Gores wanting to win sooner rather than later, patience wore thin. The organization believes Jennings is prepared to help the team win now.

The Pistons’ roster stands at 13, and you can expect the team to sign Peyton Siva, the second-round point guard out of Louisville. The team has only two players who can play center on the roster in Drummond and Monroe.

But unless there’s a trade, their options are limited since they’re up against the $58.7-million salary cap. Still, it’s expected the Pistons will add another big player.
