Case Dropped Against Terrence Williams

Prosecutors have decided not to pursue a case against former Louisville star Terrence Williams.

Williams was originally accused of pulling a gun on the mother of his child.

Here is a statement from Williams' attorney:

On September 7, 2013, the King County Prosecutors Office declined to file any criminal charges against Terrence Williams for an incident that was alleged to have occurred on May 19, 2013.

Terrence feels grateful for the diligent and thorough investigation that the King County Prosecutors Office and the Kent Police Department conducted in this matter.

Terrence was confident from the beginning that he had acted in self-defense, and is vindicated in knowing that law enforcement felt the same way after reviewing all of the evidence presented to them.

Terrence looks forward to moving on with his life and focusing his energy on his career and family.

The Boston Celtics waived Williams in June.

Ken McDonald Named Head Coach of the Austin Toros

Former Western Kentucky University head coach Ken McDonald has been named head coach of the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League.

Here is a release from NBA.com:

SAN ANTONIO – Spurs Sports & Entertainment today announced that they have named Ken McDonald as head coach of the Austin Toros. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not announced.

McDonald served as an assistant last season for the Toros under head coach Taylor Jenkins, where he helped lead the team to a 27-23 overall record and to the semifinals of the 2013 NBA D-League Playoffs.

Prior to the Toros, McDonald served as head coach at Western Kentucky University from 2008-12 where he accumulated a 67-48 overall record. His accomplishments with the Hilltoppers included guiding the school to the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships in 2009.

The Rhode Island native served as an assistant coach for the University of Texas (2004-08) where he helped guide the Longhorns to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. During his four seasons on the Texas bench the Longhorns posted a 106-35 (.752) record. The 106 wins are still the most victories in a four-year period in school history. Texas captured Big 12 Conference regular-season championships in both 2005-06 and 2007-08 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament “Elite Eight” in both of those years as well.

McDonald also served as an assistant coach at the University of Georgia (2003-04), Western Kentucky University (1998-2003) and Clemson University (1994-98).

A Providence College graduate, McDonald played two seasons with the Friars before playing professionally for the St. Paul Revelles in Killarney, Ireland from 1993-94. Before transferring to Providence he played two seasons at the Community College of Rhode Island, where he was a first-team junior college All-American, setting school records for single season scoring as well as three-pointers made in a game, season and career.

The Toros are scheduled to open the 2013-14 NBA D-League season on the road Nov. 22 when they visit the Santa Cruz Warriors. The team will open its home slate on Dec. 1 against the Delaware 87ers at 3 p.m. inside Cedar Park Center.

Calipari Watched 2015 Star Malik Newman in Open Gym Last Week

Kentucky head coach John Calipari was in Missisippi to watch 2015 star Malik Newman in open gym last week.

Here is more from ClarionLedger.com:

Newman is the nation’s top-ranked basketball player in the class of 2015 and has offers from Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and multiple other powerhouse programs. But he’d rather focus on working out every day to get better. Newman’s father, Horatio Webster, even had to tell him recently to cut back on his four workouts a day.

“He leaves it up to me,” Webster said. “He could really care less about all that stuff going on. (Kentucky) coach (John) ... Calipari called and asked him, ‘Do you know how many games of yours that I’ve been to?’ And Malik said, ‘No sir.’

“Malik is just out there giving his all. He doesn’t care who is on the sideline.”

Calipari was in Jackson last week to watch Newman during an open gym at Callaway and coaches from Kansas, North Carolina State and Florida have told Webster they’ll also be making a trip to Jackson soon.
