Georgetown College Gets Back on Track with Big Win Over Cumberland

Georgetown 74
Cumberland 54

Final from Georgetown, Kentucky

Game recap by GC:

Georgetown College men's basketball woke up for the second half and took control of the Mid-South Conference tilt Thursday night against Cumberland University. The No. 8 Tigers (4-2, 1-2) erased a four-point deficit for a 74-54 win in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.

The Bulldogs (3-4, 0-2) used spurts of offense and capitalized off GC miscues for the early advantage. However, early in the second half the Tigers were able to string together an 8-0 run and never looked back.

"I'm proud of the way they kept working and things finally started to click," said GC coach Chris Briggs. "Deondre (McWhorter) had a great game playing through the contact to really help us loosen the lane up for Gerard (Coleman) and Noah (Cottrill)."

Gerard finished with a game-high 19 points, while McWhorter chipped in 18 points with nine rebounds and Cottrill had 13 points. Tony Kimbro splashed a late three to give him 11 points on the night.

Georgetown returns to action 4 pm Saturday hosting Lindsey Wilson College.
