Georgetown College Thumps IU Southeast

Georgetown College 100
IU Southeast 76

Final from Georgetown, Kentucky

Game recap by GC:

Deondre McWhorter did more than rattle the rim a few times in Tuesday's big win over Indiana University Southeast. The junior led five Tigers (6-2) in double figures with 23 points - nearly a fourth of the total points GC scored - 10 coming from authoritative dunks. He also had 12 rebounds for a double-double for Georgetown College men's basketball team in a 100-76 win over IUSE.

The Grenadiers (3-3) had streaky shooting in the first half that led to a brief advantage at the break. They hit 50 percent in the first half including five threes and held a 39-38 edge at half.

"We came out in the final 20 minutes and played relentless defense that helped to turn the tide in our favor against a very good shooting IUSE team," said GC coach Chris Briggs. "I was very proud of our intensity and unselfishness that resulted in a very balanced attack."

Gerard Coleman tossed in 18 points. Noah Cottrill had 16. Tony Kimbro finished with 11 and Levan Shengelia and Corey Washburn each had 10.

The Tigers finished hitting 52.1 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep.

Georgetown returns to action 4 pm Friday hosting the 21st Annual Jim Reid Classic against Carlow University. Fellow Mid-South Conference foe Life University will be playing Southern University at New Orleans in the opener at 2 pm. All four teams return for games Saturday. Georgetown will play SUNO at 4 pm and Life battles Carlow.
