No. 16 Union College Earns Conference Road Win at Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. - Union College guard JD Tucker (JR/Charleston, S.C.) poured in a game-high 25 points, as the No. 16 Bulldog men's basketball team never trailed at Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday evening in a 95-87 victory in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

With the win, Union improved to 7-2 on the year and remained perfect in the AAC with a 3-0 mark. TWC fell to 4-4 overall, 2-3 in the AAC with the defeat.

In the first half, Union came out and essentially ended the ballgame in the first three minutes. In all, the visiting Bulldogs started the game on a staggering 14-0 spurt, capped off by a Tucker jumper with 17 minutes left in the half.

Once Union grabbed a double-digit lead in the half, TWC didn't come very close to lead the rest of the period.

After going up by 18 points with 10 minutes left in the half (33-15) on a DeAntray Stevens (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) three-pointer, the closest TWC got to the Union lead the rest of period was at the buzzer, as a late field goal cut the Union lead to 46-40 entering intermission.

In the second half, Union remained ahead for the remainder for regulation, despite the fact that TWC cut the lead all the way down to five points with 14 minutes to go (58-53). But, Union extinguished any comeback attempt by TWC there, as a quick 5-0 run gave Union back a double-digit lead at 63-53.

With five minutes left, Union opened an insurmountable 86-71 lead, as the visiting Bulldogs coasted down the stretch to notch their third conference road win of the young season.

Overall, Tucker was once again impressive for Union, scoring his 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor on the evening. Tucker also dished out four assists and had two steals in the win, as well.

Elsewhere, forward Deante Johnson (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio) just missed on a double-double, scoring 21 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Rounding out the double-digit scorers on the evening for Union was Stevens and Michael Bueter (SO/Fort Thomas, Ky. ), who pitched in with 11 points, apiece.

TWC was led in the loss by Dante Turnipseed, who had 19 points in a losing effort.
