Pikeville's K.K. Simmons Named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week

University of Pikeville guard K.K. Simmons was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Simmons averaged 28.5 points per game in two Bears' wins last week. He dropped a season-high 38 points on Georgetown College in a 113-100 victory.

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Pikeville (Ky.) junior K.K Simmons is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly award is the first awarded by the conference this season.

Simmons averaged 28.5 points, three rebounds and three assists while helping Pikeville to a pair of Mid-South Conference wins last week.

The Atlanta, Georgia, guard led Pikeville to an 89-85 come-from-behind win over Shawnee State (Ohio) on Thursday with 19 points and three rebounds. Simmons finished 5-for-10 from the field, including hitting half of his six 3-point attempts.

On Saturday, Simmons poured in a career-high 38 points by matching a UPIKE program-record eight 3-pointers in a 113-100 win over No. 8-ranked Georgetown (Ky.). Simmons shot 15-of-26 from the field, including making the eight threes on just 13 attempts. He added five assists and three rebounds in the win.

Simmons concluded the week shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 57.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. Additionally, he made 16 of his 17 free throw attempts.

Simmons is third in the Mid-South in both scoring average (24.0) and 3-point field goal percentage (49.0). He leads the conference with 24 3-pointers and is fifth in assists per outing (3.8).

Pikeville is 5-0 overall and is tied atop the Mid-South standings at 2-0.

The next MSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week will be announced on Monday, Nov. 24.
