Georgetown's Deondre McWhorter Named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week

Georgetown College's Deondre McWhorter was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

McWhorter averaged 24.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per game last week in three wins.

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Georgetown (Ky.) junior Deondre McWhorter is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly award is the first of the season for McWhorter.

McWhorter averaged a double-double -- 24.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per game -- last week while helping the Tigers to three wins.

The Louisville, Ky., forward recorded the first of three double-doubles during the week with 23 points and 12 rebounds during a 100-76 win over Indiana-Southeast.

During the first day of the 21st Annual Central Bank Jim Reid Classic hosted by Georgetown, McWhorter scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Tigers' 87-48 win over Carlow (Pa.).

On Saturday, McWhorter had a career day. He scored 36 points -- a new career high -- and hauled in 16 rebounds in a 92-73 win over Southern-New Orleans (La.). With his 36th point, McWhorter reached the 1,000-point plateau.

The 36 points are the second-most points scored in the Mid-South in a game this season.

McWhorter closed the week shooting 72.1 percent (31-of-43) from the field. He also averaged two blocks per outing.

McWhorter leads the Mid-South in rebounding (11.0) and double-doubles (6). He is second in field goal percentage (62.2) and blocks per game (2.4) and fifth in scoring (19.4). Nationally, McWhorter is fourth in rebounding and seventh in blocks.

No. 8-ranked Georgetown improves to 8-2 overall, including 2-2 in the Mid-South. The Tigers travel to Life (Ga.) on Thursday and to the Central State (Ohio) Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

The next MSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week will be announced on Monday, Dec. 8.
