No. 4 UPIKE Cruises Past Ohio Mid-Western

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Kevin Kornegay scored a team-high 17 points, including 12 in the second half with three 3-pointers, to lift the fourth-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team over Ohio Mid-Western 82-61 on Tuesday at the East Ky. Expo Center.

The Bears led 43-21 at halftime but were outscored by the Rams 40-39 in the second half, leading to it becoming a 10-point game with just under 10 minutes to play. Over the next seven minutes, UPIKE halted the comeback effort by outscoring Ohio Mid-Western 17-7 to go up by 20 in the final three minutes.

Kornegay hit all three of his long-range shots in those final nine minutes of the game. UPIKE (9-1) led by 14 when he hit his first one and his last made it a 20-point game at 76-56. The lead reached its apex at 23 points when Malik Jacobs dropped a corner three with 45 seconds on the clock.

Kenny Manigault scored in double figures as well with 12, while Jackson Hussey and Jacobs added 10 points each as UPIKE tallied its 30th straight win at home. The Bears shot 51.6 percent from the field, 42.1 percent (8-19) from three, but made just 10 of 21 free throws. UPIKE did outrebound the Rams 42-29, including a 13-7 advantage on the offensive glass.

Manigault led UPIKE on the boards, registering his second double-double of the season with 10.

OMW (0-7) was led by Ahmad Dauda with a game-high 18 points and TreVonte Morris added 10. Dauda also led the Rams on the boards with nine. It was a tale of two halves shooting for the Rams, hitting just 29 percent of its shots in the first half before coming in at a 58 percent clip in the final 20 minutes.

Led by Christian Leach with two, UPIKE matched a season high with five blocks, but the Rams made up for it with eight steals, tied with St. Catharine for the most takeaways by a Bear opponent.
