Bellarmine University to Face "Most Difficult Schedule" During Scott Daveneport Era

The Bellarmine Knights are gearing up to face what head coach Scott Davenports says is "the most difficult schedule" during his 10 years as head coach.

Here is a release from BU:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's basketball team announced its 2014-15 schedule today with the Knights playing 27 regular season games and exhibitions against Cincinnati and Louisville.

As it has the past two years, Bellarmine will open with an exhibition at Cincinnati with this year's game scheduled for Monday, Nov. 3. Game time is yet to be determined. Next, the Knights will take the short road trip to the KFC YUM! Center to face the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday, Nov. 9.

Bellarmine opens the regular season on the road with a pair of games in Michigan, facing Northwood and Saginaw Valley on Nov. 14 and 15, respectively, as part of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge. Both games will be played at Saginaw Valley State's campus.

The Knights open at home on Nov. 23 when they welcome perennial GLIAC powerhouse Findlay for a 3 p.m. matchup. Following trips to Memphis and Evansville to play Christian Brothers and in USI's Bill Joergenson Memorial Classic, Bellarmine returns home to host Ohio Valley and Florida Southern on Dec. 12 and 13. The final game before the NCAA-mandated winter break will be a Dec. 20 home contest against Fairmont State.

The Great Lakes Valley Conference portion of the schedule begins Jan. 2 with a home contest against Rockhurst. Other home GLVC games include: William Jewell, Lewis, Wisconsin-Parkside, Truman State, Quincy, St. Joseph's, Indianapolis and Southern Indiana.

"This is definitely the most difficult schedule in my ten years at Bellarmine," said Bellarmine Coach Scott Davenport, "starting with two tremendous exhibitions at Cincinnati and at Louisville, then three straight games against outstanding GLIAC teams Northwood, at Saginaw Valley and our home opener with Findlay. We must travel to Christian Brothers, who lost in their conference tournament final. We will host Florida Southern, an NCAA No. 1 seed, and Fairmont State, who lost to NCAA National Runner-up West Liberty in their conference semifinals — the same West Liberty team they defeated 93-81 in the regular season."

Kentucky State Players Spent Time Volunteering at a Soup Kitchen This Summer

The Kentucky State men's basketball team spent time volunteering at the Access Soup Kitchen and Men's Shelter in Frankfort several weeks ago.

As always, it's great to see coaches and players giving back to their communities.

Here are more details from KSU:

FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky State men's basketball team spent time volunteering at the Access Soup Kitchen and Men's Shelter in downtown Frankfort on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The Access Soup Kitchen and Men's Shelter, located at 311 W 2nd St. Frankfort, Kentucky 40601, is a soup kitchen for the needy and shelter for homeless men in Frankfort.

"For the past few years we've been preaching to our guys to give back and be a positive influence on those around them," Head Coach Antwain Banks said. "Volunteering allows my student-athletes to be visible in the community. It's a chance for our team to be ambassadors for Kentucky State University here locally."

Banks and the team served meals to those in need for several hours on Tuesday.

"I'm always telling my team that life on and off the court is won in the details," Banks continued. "The relationship between us (Kentucky State) and the community is just like a team. By being visible and giving back we build strong relationships and in turn get the support of the community around us."

Orlando Magic to Sign Peyton Siva for Training Camp

The Orlando Magic will likely announce today that they have signed former Louisville point guard Peyton Siva to their training camp roster.

Siva is not expected to make the team and will almost certainly be assigned to the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League.

Here's more from OrlandoSentinel.com:

On Monday, the Magic are expected to announce they have signed guards Seth Curry, Peyton Siva and Drew Crawford and big man Kadeem Batts. But although Curry, Siva, Crawford and Batts are going to be training-camp invitees, they will not compete for spots on Orlando's season-opening roster. The team's plan is to waive them and, if they clear waivers, assign them to the Magic's D-League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks.

Although Curry, Siva, Crawford and Batts will be in Orlando over the next month to train for the upcoming season, they are not expected to practice with the Magic and will not travel for preseason games.
