Bleacher Report Names Kenny Payne Best Assistant in College Basketball

Bleacher Report has ranked Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne as the best assistant coach in college basketball.

Here is an excerpt of what the site says about Payne:

Kentucky figured out how to keep top assistant Kenny Payne, though: with a seven-figure contract.

Payne was inked to a two-year, $1 million deal in May, and at the time, head coach John Calipari noted that his "feel for the game and ability to develop players is second to none," according to Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News.

Some people claim that Kentucky basketball fans are the craziest fans in the nation but I beg to differ. I think UK fans have nothing on Alabama football fans.

Former KWC Star Anthony Young Drops 42 Points in Uruguay

Former Kentucky Wesleyan College star Anthony Young scored 42 points over the weekend in Montevideo BBC's 103-92 win over Aguada in Uruguay's top-level LUB league.

Young, who also pulled down 8 rebounds, was 13-for-25 from the field and 13-for-15 from the free throw line.

Anthony Young (200-SF-89, college: Ky Wesleyan) netted 42 points, a new record for the Uruguayan League 2014/15 when Montevideo BBC defeated Aguada 103 -92 for the second round. Young, who also received 14 fouls, scored 3/6 for the three points line, 10/19 two points shots and 13/15 from the free throw, and he grabbed 8 rebounds. Also for Montevideo CamRon Clay (203-PF-82, agency: Interperformances) scored 19 points with 7 rebounds, Adrian Bertolini (191-G-78) added 20 points. For Aguada, Robert Hornsby scored 24 points with 4 rebounds, Chris Moss (204-F-80, college: W.Virginia) added 23 points and 6 rebounds, and Nicolas Borsellino (202-F-86) 12 points and 11 rebounds. The game to be played by Malvin against Trouville was postponed.

Eastern Kentucky Offers JUCO Forward Paul Jones of Palm Beach State

According to Brad Winton of JucoRecruiting.com, Eastern Kentucky has extended a scholarship offer to Paul Jones of Palm Beach State College.

Jones, who also added an offer from FAU, is a 6-foot-7 forward. He averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game last season.


UK Assistant to Visit 2015 Star Isaiah Briscoe Today

Kentucky assistant Barry "Slice" Rohrssen will meet with 2015 star Isaiah Briscoe today at his high school.



Briscoe is a 6-foot-3 point guard at Roselle Catholic (NJ) High School. He currently ranks No. 9 overall on the Rivals.com list for 2015.

Western Kentucky Begins Practice for 2014-15 Season

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have started practices for the 2014-15 season.

Western Kentucky is gearing up for the team's first season as a member of Conference USA.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The 2014-15 WKU Hilltopper Basketball team took to the floor Monday afternoon for the first preseason practice, going through two-and-a-half hours of workouts at E.A. Diddle Arena in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

The 2014-15 season will be WKU’s first as a member of Conference USA after 32 years in the Sun Belt Conference, where the program won nearly 61 percent of its games and nine regular-season and nine conference tournament titles.

In 2014-15, WKU returns its four leading scorers and over 70 percent of its scoring and over 50 percent of its rebounding from last year’s squad that finished the season with a 20-12 record and a 12-6 mark in conference play.

WKU has secured a 20-win season in back-to-back years and eight of the last 10 campaigns overall.

Hilltopper Hysteria on Saturday, Oct. 18: The annual tip-off to basketball season on The Hill, Hilltopper Hysteria, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18 at E.A. Diddle Arena. The event will run from 6:00-8:00 PM (CT), with doors opening at 5:00 and the first 500 fans receiving a free t-shirt. Other prizes and giveaways will happen throughout the evening, and the event features scrimmages, introductions of players and coaches, slam dunk and three-point contests and an autograph session. The event and parking are free.

2014-15 Preseason Prospectus Available: The 2014-15 WKU Hilltopper Basketball Preseason Prospectus is available and can be accessed at THIS LINK.

2014-15 Ticket Information: Fans interested in purchasing season tickets can call the WKU Ticket Office at 1-800-5-BIG RED or 745-5222 locally. With the anticipation of a sellout against Louisville on Dec. 20, all season ticket holders are encouraged to order additional tickets for that game on their renewal form. Season ticket pricing will remain the same as last season, ranging from $99 to $299.

If tickets remain, there will be a three-game mini plan offered starting Oct. 15 that includes tickets to the Belmont, Chicago State and Louisville games for $75. WKU opens the regular season at home on Saturday, Nov. 15 against Austin Peay after an exhibition game against Pikeville (Ky.) on Monday, Nov. 10.

Nike EYBL to Make a Stop in Lexington Next Year

The Nike EYBL, which is widely regarded as the highest level of AAU basketball, will make a stop in Lexington next year.

According to Evan Daniels, the EYBL stop in Lexington will be the weekend of April 25th. The games will be played at the KBA.

Julius Randle Goes Head-To-Head with Kobe Bryant in Lakers' Practice

Former Kentucky star Julius Randle has been going head-to-head against NBA superstar Kobe Bryant in Lakers' practices.

According to Rick Fox, during this Saturday morning practice session, the 36 year old Kobe got on the 19 year old Randle for “hiding in certain lines” during conditioning drills.

Kobe later said the reason why he’s pushing Randle so hard is because he thinks the rook has the potential to “be something special.”

Kenneth Faried Agrees to 5-Year, $60 Million Contract Extension with Denver

Former Morehead State University star Kenneth Faried has reportedly agreed to a 5-year, $60 million contract extension with the Denver Nuggets.

Here is a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:

Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried has reached agreement on a five-year, $60 million contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports….

The deal includes a partial guarantee in the fifth year that assures Faried he will make no less than $52 million over the life of the contract, sources said.

Faried averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game for the Nuggets last season. He was a key part of Team USA's run to the gold medals in this summer's FIBA World Cup of Basketball.
