Pikeville's K.K. Simmons Named MSC Player of the Week After 43-Point Explosion

University of Pikeville guard K.K. Simmons was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Simmons averaged 32.5 points per game in two wins last week. On Saturday, he exploded for 43 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in UPIKE's 107-85 win over Life University.

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Pikeville (Ky.) junior K.K Simmons is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly award is his second of the season. Simmons also earned the first weekly honor of the season on Nov. 17, 2014.

Simmons averaged 32.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in wins over Ohio Christian and Life (Ga.) last week.

The Atlanta, Georgia, guard opened the week with 22 points and three rebounds in the Bears' 99-79 win over non-conference foe Ohio Christian on Thursday. Simmons followed with 43 points -- the highest point total this season in the Mid-South -- four rebounds and three assists in Pikeville's 107-85 win over Life on Saturday.

Simmons concluded the week shooting 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the field, including 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from beyond the 3-point arc. He added 13-of-14 shooting from the free throw line.

Simmons is first in the Mid-South 3-pointers made (82), 3-pointers per game (3.9) and 3-point accuracy (48.8 percent). He is second in the conference in scoring (20.5), third in field goal percentage (53.3) and fifth in assists per game (3.3). On a national scale, Simmons is first in the NAIA in 3-pointers made and 3-pointers per game, fifth in 3-point accuracy and 11th in scoring.

No. 3-ranked Pikeville is 20-1 overall and leads the Mid-South with a 7-1 conference mark.

The next MSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week will be announced on Monday, Feb. 2.
