Berea College Dismantles UC Clermont

(2) Berea College 120
UC Clermont 54

Final from Berea, Kentucky

Game recap by BC:

The Berea College men's basketball team entered tonight's game knowing that the last time they played the University of Cincinnati – Clermont Cougars they scorched them for a 44 point victory in the "Cougar Dome" in Bativa. The question tonight would be what would the USCAA's top ranked Division I offense do the Division II Cougars on their home floor.

It would be the Cougars who came out charging scoring the first two baskets of the game, as the Mountaineers looked a bit uninspired. It didn't take long to regain their edge and the first half turned into an sports network highlight reel. At the 15 minute mark, London Moore put down a tomahawk jam with authority. At the 12:30 mark, Ethan Harris made a steal near the scorer's table. While stumbling out of bounds, he spun and tossed the ball over his head to Dominique Garmon who would convert the lay-up. Later, Tevin Webster would get in the monster slam action as he put one down with both hands. When the highlight projector clicked off and the buzzer sounded BC was up 54 to 17. The most impressive number of the first half, was that the Mountaineers had nearly as many assists (16) as the Cougars had points.

The second half almost looked like a game of horse with each team trading long range bombs, then acrobatic layups. The Cougars seemed unaffected by the barrage of BC points. UCC's Phil Cook had one segment in the second half when he seemed to play the game single handedly - grab a rebound, dribble down the court, launch a successful three. He would score 20 on the night for the Cougars, but the night belonged to the Mountaineers.

Six members of the Blue Crew reached double figures, every member of the team scored, and all but one player got an assist. Leading the way was Daishon Robinson who had 22 going 4 for 6 from long range. Richard Parker had 20 while going 7 for 11 from the floor (5 of 8) from behind the arc. Garmon dropped in 13 including 3 of 4 from long distance. Webster, Anthony Myrks, and Jalen Simmons all scored 11 points each. Berea had 37 assists on the night with Seth Beckham leading the way with eight.

The Mountaineers will be in action again on Saturday, when they travel south to Lookout Mountain, TN and their first foray into NCAA Division III competition with a 2:00 pm match up with Covenant College.
