Final from Highland Heights, Kentucky

Game recap by NKU:

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- In a Thursday night Atlantic Sun men's basketball showdown, the Northern Kentucky men's basketball team (10-14, 4-5 A-Sun) dropped a hard-fought decision to Florida Gulf Coast (18-7, 8-1 A-Sun), 65-59.

Both teams came out swinging in the first half. A steal and an assist from Chad Jackson on a Jalen Billups' lay-in gave NKU the 9-7 lead with 14:58 left.

The Eagles responded and went on a 15-2 run over the next four minutes, but the Norse refused to go away.

Eight straight points from Tayler Persons, including a three-pointer with 5:35 remaining, provided a lift for the Norse. White's jumper brought the deficit down to 30-25 before Jordan Garnett converted a layup with 3:40 left to whittle the Eagle's advantage to three.

Following an FGCU free-throw, Jordan Jackson made a driving layup, got fouled and completed the three-point play bringing the FGCU lead down to 31-30.

After the team's exchanged baskets over the next few possessions, Jackson knocked down a trey with 38 seconds remaining to give NKU a 34-33 lead, their first since the 15-minute mark.

A pair of Comer free throws gave NKU the ball back with eight ticks on the clock, enough time for White to rise and connect on a deep three to send the Norse into intermission with a 37-35 advantage.

The start of the second half was a back-and-forth affair. Early success at the free throw line by the Eagles gave them the lead, but a triple by White with 15:27 remaining tied the game at 42.
