Pikeville's Kenny Manigault Named NAIA National Player of the Week

University of Pikeville's Kenny Manigault was named NAIA DI National Player of the Week earlier this week.

Manigault averaged 24.5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals per game last week in 2 wins.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- University of Pikeville senior Kenny Manigault is the NAIA National Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his stellar play through Feb. 9-15, national office officials announced on Tuesday

The national honor is just the second in Pikeville men's basketball history with the last NAIA National Player of the Week being Trevor Setty on Feb. 18 during the 2012-13 season.

Manigault led the then-No. 4 Bears to two wins last week, averaging 24.5 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals per game. On Tuesday, the NAIA released its updated rankings with UPIKE moving up to No. 3 after Manigault's efforts.

The Ridgeville, S.C., native posted 33 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals in UPIKE's 90-86 comeback win over then-No. 6 Campbellsville on Thursday. Manigault hit 11-of-20 shots from the field, including all five of his 3-point attempts -- a career high -- to help put the Bears in sole possession of first place in the MSC standings.

Manigault closed the week with a 16-point, four-rebound performance in a 95-71 win over St. Catharine. He added two assists, two blocks and two steals while helping UPIKE win for the 18th time in 19 tries.

The senior shot 48.4 percent (15 of 31) from the field during the week, including hitting six of seven (85.7 percent) from deep. He also went 13 for 16 from the free-throw line.

Manigault ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in steals per game (2.6), 21st in scoring (19.2) and 33rd in rebounding (7.6).
