Ulysses Thomas III Enters 1,000-Point Club But Kentucky State Falls Short at Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. - The Kentucky State University men's basketball team fell to the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers, 75-66,on Saturday afternoon at the Chappie James Center.

The loss drops Kentucky State to 8-17 overall and 6-12 against SIAC opponents. Tuskegee sweeps the season series and improves to 13-10 overall, 10-6 in conference play.

Kentucky State was led by Ulysses Thomas III who used a 23 point performance to help him eclipse the 1000 point mark in his career with the Thorobreds. Thomas, a senior who transferred from Wright State University, has averaged 12.9 points per game in his three-year career at Kentucky State.

While Thomas had a solid night on the offensive end, the rest of the team struggled to find answers. Guard Tryston Ford and forward Johntae Alexander each scored eight points, going a combined 4-of-16 from the floor. Darrien Wilkins finished with seven points and six rebounds.

All five TU starters scored in double figures on Saturday. The Golden Tigers were led by David Alexander who finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Kentucky State returns to the Exum Center on Tuesday, Feb. 24, for the Thorobreds final game of the regular season when they host Stillman College at 7:30 p.m. In between the games, seniors from the women's and men's basketball team will be honored with a ceremony. The Thorobreds will be graduating four seniors (Ulysses Thomas III, Markus Montague, Darrien Wilkins and Jawan Demus) this year.
