Boyle County Stuns Ballard; Four Teams Remain in Sweet Sixteen

The Boyle County Rebels (28-6) stunned No. 1 Ballard 85-70 Friday night in the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Tournament.

Hagen Tyler led the Rebels with 32 points and 12 rebounds. Ballard head coach Chris Renner said after the game that Tyler conjured up memories of former Mason County star Chris Lofton.

Jeremiah Bell added 26 points, including 16-for-19 free throw shooting. Colton Elkins finished with 14 points and a pair of momentum-changing dunks in the second half.

Boyle County ended Ballard's 27-game winning streak.

The Rebels will face Bowling Green (30-5) in the second semifinal game tonight.

The Purples knocked off Calloway County 65-57 in the quarterfinals last night.

Tonight's other semifinal will feature Owensboro (29-4) and Covington Catholic (31-5).

Owensboro defeated Hopkinsville 71-50 Friday afternoon. Catholic knocked off Doss 61-48.
