Owensboro Advances to State Championship Game with Overtime Win Over Covington Catholic

Owensboro knocked off Covington Catholic 69-65 in overtime tonight to advance to the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet Sixteen championship game.

Covington Catholic led for a majority of the game but Owensboro took a lead in the final quarter.

It appeared the Red Devils were going to get the win in regulation but Catholic's Matthew Shumate drained a clutch three-pointer to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, division I prospect Aric Holman took charge with a huge dunk and a key blocked shot. Catholic was never able to recover and Owensboro held on for the win.

The Red Devils (29-4) will play the winner of Boyle County and Bowling Green tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. ET for the state title.
