Final from St. Louis, Missouri

Game recap by SU:

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Spalding University men's basketball team used a complete team effort to come away the 2015 SLIAC Tournament Championship for the second time in three years in a 58-51 victory over Fontbonne. The win puts the Golden Eagles at 18-9 this season as they await the NCAA D III Selection Show.

Brandon Gabriel, named tournament MVP, led all scorers with 19 points. Brandon Goeing put up 11 points and Jovante Lavender added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Renaldo "Bud" Moore was named to the All-Tournament team after posting eight points and nine rebounds.

The game was tight for the entire first half, as neither team had a lead bigger than three points. The first half saw 10 lead changes, the last occurring when Gabriel sunk a pair of free throws to put the Eagles up 26-25 at intermission.

The second half started much like the first, with the teams trading baskets for the first four minutes of the second half. That trend was over after Spalding went on an 11-0 run to go ahead 44-35 after a Goeing triple with just over nine minutes remaining. The Griffins would not go quietly, slicing the lead to two points on several occasions, the last time coming with four minutes left when the score was 50-48. Spalding was able to seal the game from the free throw line, making all four of their attempts in the final minute.
