Centre College Ranked No. 25 in DIII News Preseason Rankings

Centre College is ranked No. 25 in the DIII News Preseason Top 25 for 2015-16.

In addition, senior forward Black Scinta was a National Top 24 selection and one of the players to watch in the South Region.

BEAVERTON, Ore. ( – DIII News, the monthly newsletter of Division III basketball released its 2015-16 Preseason Top 25 on Monday, with the Centre men’s basketball team sitting 25th in the rankings. In addition, senior forward Blake Scinta (Louisville, Ky.) was a National Top 24 selection.

The Colonels are coming off a 21-5 season in which they captured a share of the Southern Athletic Association regular season title in 2014-15. Centre has qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament in seven of the past nine years under 18th-year head coach Greg Mason. The Colonels were the lone SAA squad to appear in the preseason DIII News rankings.

The Top 24 selections consisted of three of the top players to watch from each region around the country. Scinta, a first team All-SAA selection last season, was one of the players named from the South region, along with Louisiana College’s Anthony Gaines, Jr. and Centenary’s James Sapp. He paced the Colonels and ranked third in the SAA in scoring last season at 15.7 points per game. The Louisville native also sat second on the team and fifth in the SAA at 7.0 rebounds per game. He enters his senior season with 991 career points.

Centre opens the season at home on Sunday, November 15 hosting Maryville (Tenn.) in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. from Alumni Gymnasium.
