Berea College Prevails Against Boyce College

Game recap by Berea:

Berea, KY – The Berea College men's basketball team returned home this evening to take on the Boyce College Bulldogs. In a back and forth match the Mountaineers were able to grab the 70-63 win over the Bulldogs.

In the first half the Bulldogs started the game off with a 10-2 run which caused a quick timeout by Coach John Hemenway. Following the timeout the Mountaineers went on a 6-0 run cutting the Bulldogs lead to only two. Berea took their first lead of the game off a Stephen Butts three point basket at the 11:38 mark to make the score 14-13. Berea would extend their lead to as high as nine. The Bulldogs had a quick answer as they were able to cut the lead to only two heading into the half with the Mountaineers leading 30-28. Richard Parker led the team with 14 points 12 of which were from behind the arc.

The teams continued to exchange basket for basket as neither team was able to pull away. The period included seven ties and no lead larger than four points until two made free throws from Butts gave the Mountaineers a lead of six. Boyce bounced back from the six point lead and took a 61-59 advantage with 3:59. Ethan Harris came right back to hit a layup and draw the foul. With the game tied at 61 Harris hit the free throw to put the Mountaineers up 62-61. That would be the final time the Mountaineers faced a deficit for the remainder of the game. In the Mountaineers were able to hold off the Bulldogs for a 70-63 win and bring their record to 2-2 for the season.

Parker led the team with 36 points and hit an impressive 10 three pointers in the game. The Mountaineers forced 19 turnovers with 13 of those turnovers coming from steals.

The men's basketball team will be back in action at home on Sunday, November 29th where they will take on the Quakers of Wilmington College.
