FRANKLIN, Ind. (CentreAthletics.com) – Behind a career high 33 points from senior Blake Scinta (Louisville, Ky.), the Centre men's basketball team held off a late rally against the Franklin Grizzlies and picked up their first win of the 2015-16 season, winning by a score of 71-60.

The Colonels controlled the tempo in the first half, getting the Grizzlies into early foul trouble, taking advantage at the free throw line and owning the defensive glass.

Sophomore Zach Schmucker (Cincinnati, Ohio) came off the bench to score all of his career high six points in the first half and his layup gave Centre its first double digit lead of the day at 36-26.

A three-pointer by junior Matt Gump (Bellefontaine, Ohio) put Centre ahead by 13, and a jumper by freshman Tucker Sine (Bowling Green, Ky.) kept the lead at double digits as the Colonels led 41-30 going into the break at halftime.

Centre worked the ball inside to start the second half as Blake Scinta and senior Tyler Wesley (Crestwood, Ky.) combined for four layups early in the half, giving the Colonels their biggest lead of the game at 49-32.

Franklin would make a push midway through the second half as Aaron Mann scored eight of his team high 21 points to pull the Grizzlies to within five points at 50-45.

The Colonels would keep the Grizzlies at bay from the free throw line with free throws from Scinta and Wesley, but three-pointers from Mann and Trae Washington brought the game to 59-57, the closest the score had been since the 13-minute mark of the first half.
