LEXINGTON, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – Four Colonels scored in double-figures paced by senior forward Blake Scinta's (Louisville, Ky.) double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Centre men's basketball team defeated local rival Transylvania in front of a packed house on Monday night at the Buck Center.

Junior guard Sam Gruber (LaGrange, Ky.) dropped in 12 points off the bench, while senior forward Tyler Wesley (Crestwood, Ky.) and junior guard Matt Gump (Bellefontaine, Ky.) each added 10 points apiece for the Colonels.

Centre won its second straight game, improving to 2-1 on the season. The Pioneers fell to 1-3 with the loss.

It also marked a historic win for Scinta, Wesley and classmates Bryan Repishti (Louisville, Ky.) and Michael Arnett (Danville, Ky.), becoming the first senior class at Centre to win four games against Transylvania.

The Colonels quickly jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, capped by a Wesley dunk through the lane just over two minutes into the game.

Centre then built its advantage to 11 points at 18-7 when Gump knocked down a 3-pointer with 11:19 remaining in the first half.

The Pioneers would cut the Colonels' lead to four points at 21-17 after Simon Christon nailed a jumper, but Centre responded with a 13-4 run to close the half keyed by five points from Gruber. The Colonels took a 34-21 advantage into the break, forcing Transylvania to shoot just 29.6 percent (8-of-27) in the first half.

The Pioneers opened the second half with a 17-6 surge fueled by seven points by Michael Stafford to cut the Centre lead to 39-38 with 10:43 remaining in the game.
