Game recap by KSU:

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Kentucky State men's basketball team battled back and forth with Southern Indiana in a high scoring road contest but saw the Screaming Eagles pull away late for a 111-101 win on Tuesday.

Malcolm Smith scored 21 points to lead the Thorobreds, while Dorian Jordan added 16 points with eight assists. Also reaching double figures for Kentucky State were Tryston Ford with 14 points and William Bryant with 10. Southern Indiana's Jeril Taylor led all players with 33 points.

The Thorobreds trailed for nearly all of the first half after taking a quick 6-2 lead in the opening moments. Though Southern Indiana answered Kentucky State's early lead with a 10-1 run and led by as many as 12 points in the half at 43-31, the Thorobreds were able to close the gap to 55-48 by halftime.

Kentucky State carried its momentum into the second half, quickly cutting the margin to 59-56 after a 3-pointer by Ford. Moments later, the Thorobreds were able to tie the game at 65 on a 3-pointer by Kevin Shaw and take a 67-65 lead on a pair of free throws by Bryant.

Unfortunately for Kentucky State, that brief lead proved to be the high point, as the Eagles immediately responded with an 11-2 run to go in front for good. The Thorobreds pulled back within three at 78-75 when Smith and Teddy Ware Jr. knocked down 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, but Southern Indiana again answered with seven straight to push the lead back out to double digits. The Eagles were able to preserve their lead from the free throw line down the stretch.
