Game recap by TU:

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- With excitement rippling through the air in the Clive M. Beck Center, the Transylvania University men's basketball team took to the floor to battle Spalding University in its home opener. The Pioneers anxiously entered tonight's contest looking to get back into the winning grooves after a bumpy road trip to the Dan Green Memorial Tournament in St. Mary's City, Md.

The Pioneers controlled the opening tip and put it offense in high gear from the outset. Freshman Bo Schuh came out on fire nailing consecutive three point baskets in the opening minutes to set the tone for continued up tempo action. Transylvania would use this run to force Spalding into calling its first timeout with 12:23 left in the first and the Pioneers firmly in control leading 18-7. Both Simon Christon and Tristan Burgess would add to the Pioneer scoring with each adding eight points in a streak that would see Transylvania push its lead to as many as 12 points in the half. But it was Schuh who would keep the hot hand scoring eight more points in the quarter to end the half with 14 points on 5-7 shooting to include a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc. Spalding would close out on an 8-2 run in the final minutes to tighten things up. Transylvania would head into the locker room with 38-32 lead.

The Pioneers would shoot 41.7 percent in the opening half, including 6-10 from three point range. Rebounding would be tied between the teams at 20 each, with the Pioneers forcing the Golden Eagles into seven turnovers.

Picking up where they left off, the Pioneers came out on a 13-3 run to open the second half. Schuh kept the hot hand netting three of the seven, and Parker Stansberry scoring five including a long range three pointer from the left corner to keep the pressure on. The Pioneer defense caused the Golden Eagle fits during key time as the cause four shot-clock violations in the new NCAA reduced format.
