Rose, who played high school basketball at Lexington Christian Academy, is averaging 9.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford freshman Matt Rose has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Dec. 8-14. Rose tallied 17 points and seven rebounds and added a blocked shot in a win at Florida A&M (86-67) on Saturday.
The Lexington, Ky., native scored his season-high 17 points in just 23 minutes, shooting 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Overall, he was 5-of-9 from the field and his seven rebounds were a game-high against the Rattlers.
Rose averages 9.5 points on the season and is the third-leading rebounder among freshmen in the SoCon with 5.0 boards per contest. He ranks fifth in the league in 3-point percentage (.450) and averages 1.8 made triples per game.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday (Dec. 18) when they host South Alabama.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel’s Brian White, ETSU’s Petey McClain, Chattanooga’s Greg Pryor and Western Carolina’s Rhett Harrelson.
