Kentucky State Cruises to Conference Road Win at Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. – Kentucky State pulled away over the second half for its largest margin of victory of the season, picking up a 100-79 road win at Albany State in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Monday.

The Thorobreds placed five players in double figures in reaching the century mark for the second time this season. Malcolm Smith led the way with 20 points, while Tryston Ford chipped in 19 for the second straight game. Dorian Jordan added 17 points with a game-high eight assists, and Reggie Breeden scored 11 points with a game-high 12 rebounds. Johntae Alexander also hit double figures with 10 points.

Kentucky State never trailed in the game and held a 43-37 lead after a closely contested first half. The Thorobreds took over in the second half, outscoring the Rams 57-42.

Albany State shot 45 percent (31-of-69) to Kentucky State's 42 percent (38-of-90). However, the Thorobreds were able to counter that edge with a 32 percent (8-of-25) performance from outside and a 73 percent (16-of-22) night from the free throw line while the Rams shot just 17 percent (3-of-18) from outside and 47 percent (14-of-30) on free throws. Kentucky State also held a 58-46 rebounding advantage.

With the win, Kentucky State tops the .500 mark at 5-4 on the season, while improving to 4-1 in SIAC competition. Albany State falls to 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Thorobreds return home, where they will take on Morehouse at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Exum Center.
