KWC's C.J. Blackwell Named G-MAC Athlete of the Week

Kentucky Wesleyan College's C.J. Blackwell was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Here's a release from KWC:

Kentucky Wesleyan senior forward C.J. Blackwell was named the eighth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for 2015-16 on Monday.

This is Blackwell's second career G-MAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honor after receiving the same recognition in December of last year.

Blackwell, a dangerous inside/outside offensive weapon on the wing, did his part and more as the streaking Panthers compiled a pair of road conference wins (Alderson Broaddus, Davis & Elkins) in West Virginia.

He averaged 17.5 points and six rebounds in a two-game stretch that featured 60 percent shooting (12-of-20) and a scorching 8-for-12 conversion rate from beyond the arc.

Kentucky Wesleyan upped its season record to 15-2 overall in the midst of a current six-game winning trend with a league-leading 3-0 conference mark.

The Panthers were able to earn a little redemption against Alderson Broaddus with a 14-point win in Philippi on Thursday.

The last time the two teams met in Rex Pyles Arena went in favor of Alderson Broaddus with the 2015 G-MAC tournament title on the line.

Blackwell was part of a balanced scoring effort as fourth Panthers recorded double-digit totals in the box score. The senior scored 12 points and had seven rebounds in 25 minutes as both teams engaged in another defensive struggle.

He had 5-of-10 tries from the field that included a pair of triples.

Blackwell lit up Davis & Elkins on Saturday as KWC registered a convincing 88-56 win. Six of his seven made field goals were from long range and he finished with a game-high 23 points.
