Santa Cruz Warriors Cut Ties with Daniel Orton

The Santa Cruz Warriors have cut ties with former Kentucky center Daniel Orton.

Despite putting in good numbers this season, Santa Cruz coach Casey Hill said, "nothing against Daniel, it just wasn't really working out here."

Here are details:

Monday, the Warriors also parted ways with Daniel Orton, the 6-foot-10 center whom they traded for on draft day. Although Orton started in all 20 games he played for the Warriors, averaging 13.2 points and five rebounds in 23.5 minutes, he at times struggled to consistently stay on the floor due to foul trouble.

Orton fouled out seven times and finished another six games with five fouls. Hill said that can make it difficult to develop floor chemistry, which had a small role in the team’s decision.

“It was an organizational decision that we had made,” Hill said. “Nothing against Daniel, it just wasn’t really working out here. And it turned into a decision that we needed to make for the overall culture of the team.”
