KWC's C.J. Blackwell Earns G-MAC Weekly Honors

Kentucky Wesleyan's C.J. Blackwell was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week earlier today.

Here is a release from KWC:

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Kentucky Wesleyan senior forward C.J. Blackwell was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for 2015-16 on Monday. This marks the second time this season he has won the honor—Jan. 19.

Since transferring from Loyola Marymount, this is Blackwell's third career G-MAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honor after receiving one in December of 2014 and another earlier this year on Jan. 19.

The Panthers went on to compile two wins, one against conference opponent Cedarville, and another vs. Oakland City. No. 22 KWC ran its record to 19-3 overall and is still tied for first in the conference at 6-1.

This past week, he averaged 23.5 points per game and 3.5 rebounds while connecting at over 64 percent from the field (18-of-28) and nearly 62 percent (8-for-13) from beyond the arc. He also added 2.5 steals per contest.

Blackwell came shooting lights out for the Panthers in the game against the Yellow Jackets. He was 8-12 from the field and 3-6 from the three-point line, ending with 22 points in just 25 minutes of play. He also contributed five boards and hit all three free throws.

Once again, Blackwell came out guns blazing and erupted for 25 points in 28 minutes vs. Oakland City. He dialed up five makes from long distance and was 10-of-16 overall on field goals.

So far this season, Blackwell ranks 12th in the G-MAC in scoring (13.1 ppg), seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.418), fourth in three-point field goals made (2.3 avg.), eighth in steals (1.2) and eighth in field-goal percentage (.505).

KWC looks ahead to a non-conference game against Central State and later in the week will also face Trevecca Nazarene, the only team to beat KWC in conference play.
