Vaught: Rick Pitino Should Learn to Stop Talking

Larry Vaught says on that Louisville head coach Rick Pitino should learn to stop talking so much.

Pitino continues to make media appearances and bring even more attention to his program, which is currently marred in a sex scandal involving recruits and prostitutes.

Here's an excerpt of Vaught's thoughts:

Certainly Rick Pitino knows a lot more about coaching college basketball than most of us. However, I do wonder if most of us don't know more about how to keep negative attention away than what Pitino does.

The Louisville coach went on ESPN Radio Tuesday on the Mike (Greenberg) and Mike (Golic) Show to talk about the sex scandal at Louisville one day after ESPN aired a special report indicating that three recruits had admitted being at the "alleged" sex parties at Louisville.

I'm not sure why Pitino wants to keep turning the national spotlight on Louisville's problems. But he also could not resist poking Kentucky coach John Calipari and Kentucky fans.

Calipari was not happy that UK was a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament and opens play Thursday night against Stony Brook. Calipari, and most UK fans, felt the Cats should have been at least a No. 3 seed and that belief only intensified when UK climbed to No. 10 in the Associated Press ranking.

The show hosts asked Pitino what he thought about Calipari's complaining over the seeding. Here's what he said:

"He tries to make the world being against him. He does the same thing that John Thompson did at Georgetown -- the world's against us. Wherever he's going, he'll probably stay 30 miles outside of town because the hotel's not good enough. Nothing's ever good enough, the world's against us," Pitino said.

"He gets to his players and says we should be seeded much higher; matter of fact, how dare they put Kansas the No. 1 seed, it should be Kentucky. And he'll have all those guys fired up. He did that great at UMass. It's sort of difficult for him to buy into that at Kentucky, but he's still trying to do it.”
