The Halifax Hurricanes Kevin Keathley will join the team as the head coach and general manager for the upcoming season. Keathley joins the team from the Bowling Green Bandits of the American Basketball Association, where he led the team to a 11-2 record last season. 'I couldn't be more excited to be given the opportunity to lead one of the cornerstone franchises of NBL Canada,' said Keathley in a news release. 'We will build a championship quality team on and off the court.' Keathley is known for his fast paced, up-tempo philosophy. His Bandits averaged 127 points in 13 regular season games last year. 'He's a coach who understands what's needed to build a competitive team and to be part of the community,' said Don Mills, chair of the Hurricanes board of directors. Keathley has never had a losing season in his 15-year coaching career, but will have big shoes to fill in Halifax. 'It's going to be an exciting season as we look to defend the title against some of the best coaches and players in professional basketball,' said Keathley. Former General manager Andre Levingston led Halifax franchises to back-to-back National Basketball League of Canada finals appearances. While former head coach Hugo Lopez won the NBL of Canada's coach of the year award last season and led the team to a league championship in its inaugural year. The team tried to negotiate a new contract with Lopez, but the two parties couldn't come to terms on an agreement. Keathley has previous experience coaching in Canada. He was behind the bench of the now-defunct Ottawa Skyhawks in 2013, but was fired after just seven games. He was named as one of the top-10 Coaches in the United States not in the NBA back in 2009.
