Union College Releases 2016-17 Men's Basketball Schedule

The Union College men's basketball schedule for 2016-17 is out.

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union College men's basketball head coach Kevin Burton released the Bulldogs' 206-17 schedule, which features 16 home dates, the NAIA Southeastern Challenge and the NAIA Men's Basketball DII Showcase.

Union is coming off another stellar season that saw the team finish ranked No. 11 in the postseason NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll with an overall record of 28-7 and 16-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The Bulldogs won their third AAC regular-season and tournament championship in a row and advanced to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.

In four years under Burton, Union has won three regular-season conference championships and three conference tournament titles, advanced to the national tournament three times, and posted a 101-31 record for a 0.771 winning percentage. The 101 wins are the most for the Bulldogs over any four-year stretch in program history.

Statistically, Union proved to be arguably one of the tops in the nation. The Bulldogs finished the year averaging 86.1 points per game, which was good enough for 15th in the nation. Elsewhere, Union ended the season fourth in 3-point field-goal percentage (40.7 percent), fourth in total points scored (3,012), eight in total rebounds (1,401) and 11th in free throw percentage (74.8 percent).

The Bulldogs look to add to its continuousness success as they open up their 2016-17 campaign on the road against a NCCAA opponent, Simmons College on Nov. 1. The season opener is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off in Louisville, Ky.

Union returns home for the NAIA Southeastern Challenge in watch it will play three games on three consecutive days. The Bulldogs will face Southeastern (Fla.) on Nov. 3, Keiser (Fla.) Nov. 4 and St. Thomas (Fla.) on Nov. 5.
