Dunbar's Taveion Hollingsworth Signs with Western Kentucky University

Paul Laurence Dunbar star Tavieon Hollingsworth, who will enter the upcoming season as a favorite to win Kentucky Mr. Basketball, has signed with Western Kentucky University.

Here's a release from WKU:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU men's basketball head coach Rick Stansbury announced Wednesday the signing of three-star prospect Taveion Hollingsworth (6-2 Guard) to a national letter of intent in the 2017 recruiting class. Hollingsworth, an in-state product out of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, is a consensus three-star recruit across all outlets and is a front-runner for Kentucky's 2017 Mr. Basketball award.

"We're excited to have Taveion join our basketball family," Stansbury said. "It's very obvious he's a terrific player from a really good high school program where he's been really well-coached. At the same time, he's a terrific young man and a great student, and we're happy to have him and his family become a part of our program."

A proven winner with Bluegrass roots, Hollingsworth was named the KHSAA Sweet 16 MVP last year while leading Dunbar to a 33-6 record and its first state title.

Hollingsworth played 124 of 128 possible minutes during the state tournament and averaged 21 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as a junior. He shot 53.1 percent from the field and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.

He has a chance as a senior to become Dunbar's all-time leading scorer, as well as the all-time leading scorer in Fayette County history, a tradition-rich region of the state.

"It's been a blessing to coach the best player in the state for the last four years," Dunbar High School coach Scott Chalk said. "He is a special young man on and off the court and by far the most clutch player I have seen at his age in my 25 years of coaching high school basketball in Kentucky."

Hollingsworth is the first 2017 talent to ink with WKU during the early signing period, which began Wednesday.

Head coach Rick Stansbury on Hollingsworth:

"We're excited to have Taveion join our basketball family. It's very obvious he's a terrific player from a really good high school program where he's been really well-coached. At the same time, he's a terrific young man and a great student, and we're happy to have him and his family become a part of our program."
