Transylvania Picked to Finish Second in HCAC Preseason Poll

Transylvania University has been picked to finish second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's preseason coaches' poll.

Here's a release from Transy:

Greenwood, Ind. – With a strong finish to its 2015-16 season, and a recharged lineup of depth and skill, the Transylvania men's basketball team has been selected to finish second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's 2016-17 coaches' preseason poll.

The Pioneers received 74 out of a possible 100 voting points to earn the second-place prognostication in a survey of the league's 10 coaches.

Transylvania is coming off of a semifinal appearance in last season's HCAC Conference Tournament before bowing out against tournament champion Mount St. Joseph, who is picked to finish first in the preseason poll. Mount St. Joseph received six of the 10 available first-place votes, while Transylvania received one first-place vote.

The Pioneers put together a 9-9 record in HCAC play last year, but return four starters to their lineup, including three of their four leading scorers from their previous campaign.

Closely following Transylvania in the preseason poll was Hanover in third, and Manchester to complete the top-four. Rose-Hulman was selected to finish fifth, followed by Anderson, Defiance, Franklin, Bluffton, and Earlham.

The Pioneers are preparing for a challenging 2016-17 season under the guidance of head coach Brian Lane, who enters his 16th year in his position. Lane will also be assisted by Barrett Meyer and Justin Taylor who each enter their third years as Pioneers assistants. Also joining the Pioneers for their upcoming season is Kentucky college basketball legend Kyle Macy, whom Lane assisted at Division I Morehead State prior to becoming Transy head coach in 2001.

Transylvania embarks upon its season beginning on Monday, November 7 when it visits Division I University of Tennessee at Martin in an exhibition contest. Nonconference play for the Pioneers commences on Wednesday, November 16 as they host Thomas More College in their home opener at the Beck Center at 7:00 p.m.
