About the Don Lane Classic

Created in 2010 as the annual Transylvania men’s basketball holiday tournament, the Don Lane Classic is named for legendary Transylvania men’s basketball head coach Don Lane, who oversaw the team from 1975 through 2001.

During his tenure, Coach Lane’s teams made six NAIA National Tournament appearances, and three NCAA National tournament appearances, while collecting a career record of 592-313.

Coach Don Lane has been inducted into the NAIA Basketball Hall of Fame, Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, Union College Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Transylvania Athletic Hall of Fame.

Widely regarded as one of the best fundamental basketball coaches in the nation, Coach Lane has directed one of the largest basketball camps in the country, with nearly 50,000 students attending his camps, including representatives from every state and 13 different countries.

Don Lane also served as Athletic Director at Transylvania from 1975-1996, doubling the number of sports offerings over that span. Coach Lane has also kept a regular teaching schedule in the classroom, serving as a tenured associate professor of physical education.
